I’ve spoken to many of you individually about this but I think you have a number of options this week. Or a blend of a few of them. I know that many of you are familiar with the concept of a Deload. If you aren’t, I am attaching a former post I wrote about the subject, however, in short it simply means occasionally decreasing load, volume and intensity to allow your body and mind a chance to recover. Most of you have been going hard for a long time without much of a break. With that in mind I’m going to make a mild suggestion to consider this time off from barbell training as a healthy break. If you do this right, you will return later this week refreshed, with less cranky joints and muscles. So here are a few options.
Deloading for CrossFit
- Use this time to try Yoga, Pilates and Spin classes at bodyscapes. Stay away from weights for one week. Stretch every day and perhaps go on a few light jogs, or if you can’t run then swim/bike or row.
- Try a few of Kay’s track workouts and a couple of Jamie’s Bootcamps. Focus a few days on aerobic capacity rather than strength. Even if you aren’t an early bird, its good to break up your routine and try something new.
- If you go to bodyscapes, don’t get too nutty with the weights, I can ASSURE you that there will be plenty of barbells in your life soon enough. Pause, rest, relax.
- Go on some long walks. We should be open by thursday but in the meantime, its gorgeous out. Go for an aggressive evening walk.
