How to approach this week

By brett kokoruda | In Coach's Corner, News & Events, WOD | on May 15, 2016

I’ve spoken to many of you individually about this but I think you have a number of options this week. Or a blend of a few of them. I know that many of you are familiar with the concept of a Deload. If you aren’t, I am attaching a former post I wrote about the subject, however, in short it simply means occasionally decreasing load, volume and intensity to allow your body and mind a chance to recover. Most of you have been going hard for a long time without much of a break. With that in mind I’m going to make a mild suggestion to consider this time off from barbell training as a healthy break. If you do this right, you will return later this week refreshed, with less cranky joints and muscles. So here are a few options.

Deloading for CrossFit

  1. Use this time to try Yoga, Pilates and Spin classes at bodyscapes. Stay away from weights for one week. Stretch every day and perhaps go on a few light jogs, or if you can’t run then swim/bike or row.
  2. Try a few of Kay’s track workouts and a couple of Jamie’s Bootcamps. Focus a few days on aerobic capacity rather than strength. Even if you aren’t an early bird, its good to break up your routine and try something new.
  3. If you go to bodyscapes, don’t get too nutty with the weights, I can ASSURE you that there will be plenty of barbells in your life soon enough. Pause, rest, relax.
  4. Go on some long walks. We should be open by thursday but in the meantime, its gorgeous out. Go for an aggressive evening walk.
