We are literally days away from opening and I will be posting regular updates on the site from here on out. The gym is essentially complete, the equipment is in and we’re awaiting our permits. My hope is that this small snowstorm won’t set us back but I’d say the latest we should be open would be this Friday if our permits clear. I for one CANNOT wait to get in and start wodding in this joint.
You will receive a call or email in the next day or two at which point you can sign up on mindbody for your classes. If anyone has any questions about how to do that just contact me directly, it’s very simple and you can even download the mindbody connect app on your phone for greater convenience.
To that end, I’d like to make a couple of blanket suggestions. Many of you are starting off with an unlimited membership. This ostensibly allows you to sign up for a class every day. Unless you are an experienced CrossFitter, I highly recommend you start with 2 or 3 classes for the first week or two as your body adapts to this protocol. Give yourself a chance to recover and be mindful that this is likely a training system that is much much higher in intensity than what you may be used to. The coaches are here to help but you need to be a sensible advocate for yourself also.
Classes will be capped at 15 people and we will generally have two coaches here for each class. Please only sign up for classes that you know for certain you can attend. If you sign up and need to cancel please make sure you do that or the system will consider that one of your classes for the week. I would also encourage those of you with flexible schedules to try to attend the off hour classes. There will inevitably be a bottleneck in the 6am/7am/530pm/630pm classes, so if you’re able to attend the 930am/12pm/4pm/730pm classes then I’d highly recommend that. You’re also more likely to find a lower coach/client ratio during those times, which would benefit anyone who is new. The starting schedule will be finalized and put online by tomorrow evening.
Please show up on time, preferably 5 minutes prior to class. If you are more than 5 minutes late for a class you may not be admitted per the coaches discretion. The warm-ups are essential to the programming and a non-optional part of CrossFit training. Being on time will not only insure your safety but will also help us run a more efficient class.
Most of you are new to CrossFit. This presents ALL of us with an opportunity to get back to basics. Some of you have expressed concern about whether you’re ready for CrossFit and our programming in the first few months will emphasize building a foundation upon which all of you can succeed. Technique, form and safety, while always our top priority will be stressed even more during this time. Each movement will be explained in great detail and you’re encouraged to ask questions about not only the “how’s” but the “why’s” as well.
We will post the WODs for the following day each evening around 8pm. We encourage you to stay up to date with the site as there will often be content related to the WOD or a particular lift that we would like you to read prior to attending class.
Finally, let’s all make a point of enjoying ourselves and getting to know one another in the coming weeks. Extend your hand, ask people their names, get to know your fellow athletes and your coaches as well. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me or grab me after a class and I’ll be happy to help.
