I hope everyone had an awesome holiday weekend. The 4th may have been a washout but it still turned out to be a beautiful couple days.
This past week I took completely off from training. I didn’t touch a barbell. It was a strange revelation but for whatever reason I just knew I needed to take time off. The thought of not lifting for 7 days legit stressed me out. The nights I usually spent waiting for my programming (as I’m sure many of you do waiting for the blog at night to see what the next day’s WOD will be), were few and far between. I thought it would be a pretty miserable week not being able to workout, but it turned out for the better. I kept relatively relaxed and did a few things that I don’t normally get the chance to do. Played guitar a little bit, walked a lot, cooked, etc. And then capped off the week attending a Sox game behind home plate with a good buddy of mine whom I have not had the chance to hang out with in a while.
From time to time its nice to be reminded about all the other stuff that goes on in the world. Not to say I don’t think about them, but I usually am preoccupied with Lifting. I guess the lesson I learned this week is that it’s ok to be committed to something and to enjoy it, but 1) Listen to your body and know when to rest, and 2) Always remember that CrossFit, Weightlifting, etc, are just things you do (and are maybe even really good at), but don’t let them define you. Always remember to go out and enjoy other random things.
