Winter Whole 30

Let me take a guess, you ate and drank a little too much over the last month?

Many of you have been asking about our next nutrition challenge. We will  be starting the CFCC Winter Whole30, next Tuesday January 12th.

This is a great chance for our older members to reboot and get 2016 off on the right foot. For our newer members, you’ll get to see what happens when you combine CrossFit with healthy eating. There are always lots of questions, most of which can be answered definitively at www.whole30.com I would recommend you spend some time reading this site and I would highly recommend the ebook: It Starts with Food

Here are the basics:

Q:Who is this for?

A: All CFCC members, and any friends and family of members who wish to participate

Q: When does it start and end?

A: This coming Tuesday January 12th and ends Friday February 12th

Q: How much does this cost?

A: This nutrition challenge is free

Q: What do I need to do to sign up and how do we communicate with coaches and other participants

A: Many of you have done this with us before and know that it’s pretty informal. We have a facebook page designated for this, on which we share recipes, reflections and questions. We can easily add you to the page if you just let a coach know. Otherwise, you’re on your honor here. No points or logins etc. We encourage you to stay connected and accountable online and in the gym. It usually generates some great discussions and is a wonderful community building event.

If you have any other questions, ask a coach, but the rules of the challenge itself are pretty clear:

For 30 days you are giving up:

  1. Alcohol
  2. All Grains and starchy Carbohydrates(except for sweet potatoes)
  3. All added sugar, even in sauces and dressings
  4. All Dairy, except for Ghee(clarified butter)
  5. No Legumes
  6. We are adding one other suggestion: for the duration of the whole30 we are asking that you don’t use phones, computers or ipads while you are eating. This is not a pass/fail. We are simply asking you to be more mindful while you eat.

What you can have:

  1. All vegetables(except starchy white carbs like potatoes)
  2. All animal protein(eggs, fish, poultry, beef, pork)
  3. All Fruit(be careful with this, it can be abused)
  4. Healthy  Oils: Olive, coconut etc
  5. nuts and seeds

Read the site for more details about “fringe foods” like Hummus or Kombucha. Most of the questions you have are addressed clearly on the site.
