If you’ve been around CrossFit people for any amount of time you probably keep hearing the word community thrown around. When I first started CrossFit in San Francisco years ago, the owner of the box, Chris Lalanne(nephew of Jack) kept using that word and to be honest at the time it fell on deaf ears. All I really cared about were the results that CrossFit promised to deliver. It didn’t take me long to realize that Chris was right. While the results of CrossFit training in my life were undeniable, it was the community that kept me coming back. CFCC is a brand new gym and presents us all with the unique opportunity to build something new and something special in one of the best neighborhoods in the country.
As of today, we are just shy of 100 members. I’m frankly overwhelmed by the response we’ve gotten so far and our membership reflects the diversity within Brookline itself. We have students, doctors, scientists, baristas, attorneys, marketing executives, non-profit workers, EMT’s, stay at home parents….Members from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Columbia, Israel and more than a few from Brookline itself. Most have never tried CrossFit before and so this is a great chance to learn the basics of strength in conditioning while making new friends in the process.
I’ve mentioned this to a few of you but if you’ve ever walked into a gym and wondered “what should I be doing today” then get ready to have that question definitively answered for good. If you’ve ever wished that there was more waiting for you after work than a treadmill, your headphones and a People magazine. If you’ve ever been dissatisfied with the results of your training… then welcome aboard, those days are over.
