It’s Your Workout
     Hey Guys. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Mandy. I coach in the mornings and run the CrossFit Fundamentals program at CFCC on Sundays so if you’re a regular evening go-er I may not have had the chance to meet you. Since the majority of the gym is new to CrossFit I just wanted to take the time to share my story with you guys about how CrossFit changed my life.
     I found CrossFit my junior year of college at BU because my sister had been doing it back home in California. I was horrible when I started. At the time I weighed in at about 95 pounds and could hardly do a push up on a 24″ box. My squat was pathetic and every workout I did  had more scales than a fish. Nothing came easy to me in CrossFit, nothing.
     I kept coming back because it was fun,  challenging and I desperately needed to put on some muscle. I was tired of being a scrawny little girl, incapable of doing even the most basic bodyweight exercises. My diet consisted almost entirely of junk food because I didn’t understand anything about nutrition. I got winded walking up a flight of stairs, and I was always freezing cold no matter what time of year it was. The Summer before my senior year I traveled abroad to Sydney, Australia for a 3 month internship and joined a CrossFit there. I was hooked immediately and it soon became the highlight of my day when  I realized my internship was boring. When I returned to Boston I dedicated most of my time and effort to becoming stronger. I learned a lot about nutrition and building strength and never looked back. My training ultimately led me down the path to becoming a coach so that I could share my new passion with others who were just starting out.
     Many people will ask me if “CrossFit makes you bulky?​” While you can certainly put on muscle,  Crossfit training tends to create a lean, healthy and athletic build. I gained weight because that is what I personally needed to do and I worked extremely hard to put on muscle. Everyone’s journey in CrossFit is different, but I just wanted to share mine. Results and performance are king in CrossFit so when I realized one day that I could Snatch more than I weighed when I first started CrossFit, I knew that I’d undergone profound changes for the positive. Whether your goal is to shed weight, get stronger, get faster, or just have fun, remember to come in every day and do your workout.
